I took an advanced digital drawing class in which we had to listen to each episode of the "Unexplained Podcast" and create a 12x12in digital drawing in response.
Week 1
My idea was to visualize the concept of how there could be multiple dimensions and unseen worlds. I found an image of two trees with a path in the middle. I began using Illustrator and Photoshop to design multiple versions of the scene. I used the clipping mask to isolate each section and used a white grid to show how each area could be connected.
Week 2
The second episode was about unexplained events related to reincarnation. The podcast mentioned samsara and Charles Darwin, so I tried to combine these topics. Darwin's finches represent how traits can be passed on from ancestors and the infinity sign (flight direction) signifies an endless cycle.

Week 3
The third episode was about UFO sightings and human perception. I chose to create a visual representation of "is it a bird or a plane" and morph it into something unrecognizable. I used Illustrator to draw a bird and a plane, then moved to Photoshop to mix it up.
Week 4
"Episode 4: Where Darkness Plays" mentioned the "Philip experiment" where a group was told to create a fictional character and then attempt to summon it through a séance. They called the ghost "Philip Aylesford" and gave him a detailed backstory. I though the entire experiment was ridiculous and decided to create a "scrapbook" page to explain Philip's backstory, as if he was a real person.
Since Philip was alive from 1624-1654, I had to go through old paintings to figure out how to visualize his life. The specific paintings were "Portrait of Charles II" by Sir Peter Lely, "Portrait of a Young Man of the Maynard Family" by George Romney Victoria, and "Reapers" by George Stubbs. I tried to recreate and modify the paintings in Illustrator to make the core visuals work for my project.
Week 5
This week, we skipped to Episode 6. This episode was wild, so I just focused on a scene where a man threw a cat out of the house during dinner and his friends thought he was possessed. The falling cat acts as a metaphor for the man's loss of control.
Week 6
Episode seven was about ghost stories and the passage of time. I chose to create a cityscape to represent the present. I used an abstract nature border to represent the past/future.

WEEK 7
The theme this week was underwater mysteries. One of the stories reminded me of the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" animated film. I tried to recreate a scene in my own way.
Week 8
"Episode 8: Where the Light Fades" talked about mysteries related to lighthouses and the ocean. A quote that stood out to me was "for aren't we all, in a way, keepers of the light, isolated on a rock, forever on the verge of being swept from existence by a giant mythical wave." I decided to take the quote literally by creating a lighthouse with a giant wave hidden behind it.
Week 9
The final episode was about a man that practiced magic. Basically, I created a diagram of a hat trick (the most cliché magic trick) to critique his life choices.
